Founder of UnBoxed Theatre, Barbara is a television writer, producer, and playwright. As a member of the WGA, she spent 27 years working in Los Angles. Of the various television scripts she's written, she is most proud of "One of the Girls" written for the series 9 To 5 that won the GLAAD Award. This episode was considered groundbreaking as she wrote one of the first gay characters portrayed in a positive light... 9 years before Ellen's coming out episode. Known for her unique comedic voice, Barbara tackles vital social issues such as racism, antisemitism, LGBT rights, and women's rights. Her work combines humor with biting social commentary with the goal of inspiring change and provoking thought.

A 2020 Jeff Award winner, Renée can also currently be seen on the the small screen on Disney Channel as Miss Pecolia in Saturdays, on HBO Max as Dorothy Brown in all 3 seasons of the hit comedy South Side and as a recurring Guest Star role of Just Alma on the new MGM+ series Emperor of Ocean Park. Actor, writer and musician who has been a NYC downtown theater fixture for many years, working with Target Margin, Arden Party, and Dearknows Theater companies, and was a member of the Obie award winning Cucaracha Theater. He recently appeared in “Dickhead” at Theater for the New City, TEA’s production of “Rocco, Chelsea,…etc at HERE and their production of “Being Chaka” at The New Ohio Theatre. He has worked extensively with filmmaker Hal Hartley, appearing in his films “Amateur”, “Henry Fool” and “Fay Grim”. Other credits-“Sopranos”, “High Maintenance”, “Orange Is The New Black” and all the “Law&Order”s. He has been a stand-up comedian playing clubs everywhere and was a writer/performer with Comedy Central. He is guitarist/composer with his wife Sue Scarlett Montgomery in the band Chuck&Sue, playing all around Brooklyn and Manhattan. He was born in Richmond, VA, and grew up all over the world. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, filmmaker/composer/actor/singer Sue Scarlett Montgomery and their son, Grier Montgomery.
